Gas Cylinder Safety Information

• DO treat a cylinder with care and ensure the valve is not damaged before making a connection.
• DO use and store cylinders in the upright position.
• DO follow any safety advice and instruction given with the cylinder
• DO always try to change cylinders out of doors, away from any sources of ignition such as, naked lights, open fires, lit cigarettes etc. The appliance must also be switched off.
• DO lift cylinders with care, as the total weight can be double the content weight shown.
• DO ensure that the cylinder cap is replaced when empty.

• DON’T subject a cylinder to heat as the pressure inside could build up to exceed the safe limit.
• DON'T store or use cylinders in cellars or below ground level. LPG is heavier than air and if there was a leak the gas will collect at low level and become dangerous in the presence of a flame or spark.
• DON'T store Gas cylinders indoors or in high rise flats where a piped gas supply is prohibited.
• DON’T put yourself at risk. Wear hand and eye protection if it’s possible that LPG may escape from a cylinder in normal usage as it can cause severe frost burns.

• DO ensure the correct regulator is fitted in the connection between cylinder and appliance. Follow the manufacturers instructions provided with the regulator. If a regulator shows signs of wear it should be replaced.

• DON’T adjust the regulator, as the pressure is precisely set to control the pressure of supply.
• DON’T attempt to disconnect a regulator from the switch-on valve if the flame does not go out when the regulator switch is turned off. Leave appliance alight and call your local calor retailer.

• DO use flexible hoses and tubing approved to BS3212 (type 2 is recommended for BBQ and Patio Heater applications). If a hose or tube shows signs of wear it should be replaced.

• DON’T use long hose and tubing lengths. Keep them as short as possible and ensure they are secured with proper hose clips. Make sure that hoses and tubing are kept clear of ‘hot spots’ and inspected regularly for signs of wear & cuts.

• DO buy only CE marked LPG appliances DO read the manufacturers instructions and labels provided with your appliance and keep them handy for future reference.
• DO keep your appliance clean and service it regularly using competent (i.e. CORGI registered) installers. Not only will this ensure it is safe but also mean it will burn efficiently and therefore save money.

• DON’T improvise or modify your gas appliance. Always ask your calor retailer for advice.
• DON’T let unqualified people tamper with or service your appliance. It could become unsafe to use.

• Calor has a special odorant added to help with the detection of leaks.
• Never use a naked flame to search for a leak. A suitably calibrated explosimeter may be used for testing the concentration of LPG in air.
• If you suspect a leak, turn off the gas and ensure there is no source of ignition nearby.
• Examine all pipes and connections. If the leak is not located, turn on the gas supply and brush over the connections with a liquid detergent – it will bubble where there is a leak. If in doubt contact your retailer.

• Immediately raise the alarm and call the fire brigade.
• Do not go near the cylinder in the vicinity of the fire
• Advise the Fire Brigade, on arrival, of the location of ALL cylinders.
